Prison Warden Responsibilities:

• Recruiting, supervising, and assisting with the training of correctional officers, maintenance staff, cooks, health care professionals, and counselors.
• Ensuring all staff is familiar with the laws that govern prisoners and that they obey these laws as well as the rules of the prison at all times.
• Monitoring staff and addressing any performance issues and scheduling training sessions where required.
• Ensuring prison safety and security procedures are observed at all times, and that staff, inmates, and visitors remain protected.
• Conducting investigations into any reports of inappropriate behavior or misconduct and taking disciplinary action.
• Ensuring prison rehabilitation and re-entry programs are working well and making recommendations wherever possible.
• Running emergency drills and ensuring all staff and inmates are well-versed on what to do during an emergency.
• Making sure all required resources are available.
• Managing budgets and initiating fundraising programs.

Prison Warden Requirements:

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in criminology, social work, or a related field.
• Several years of experience as a police officer, corrections officer, supervisor, or similar required.
• Relevant licenses or certifications may be required.
• A clean criminal record.
• Strong leadership, management, and business skills.
• Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
