Biochemical Engineer Job Description Template

We are searching for an honest, reliable, and innovative biochemical engineer to join our company. The biochemical engineer will be tasked with using knowledge of chemistry and biology to improve existing processes, collaborating with biologists and engineers to find solutions to problems, and conducting independent research. You should be able to determine the impact of manufacturing processes and waste disposal techniques, and also come up with less harmful alternatives.

To be successful as a biochemical engineer, you should keep abreast of scientific developments and also make valid contributions to existing research. Outstanding candidates are curious, innovative, and tireless in their efforts to positively impact the world.

Biochemical Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Analyzing and understanding current biomanufacturing processes and techniques.
  • Ensuring all biochemical processes are compliant with environmental regulations and governmental policies.
  • Developing products and waste removal techniques that have fewer negative environmental consequences.
  • Devising, overseeing, and leading experiments, studies, and other research initiatives.
  • Preparing project plans, which include allocating resources, delegating tasks, and providing budgetary estimates.
  • Developing simulations and models using various software.
  • Obtaining permits and completing patent applications as required.
  • Preparing diagrams and schematics using CAD software.
  • Working alongside other staff to develop and implement quality assurance processes.
  • Reading new scientific research, attending conferences, and networking with engineers, scientists, and other professionals.

Biochemical Engineer Requirements:

  • Degree in engineering, biology, chemistry, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree preferable.
  • Supplementary courses in mathematics would be a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to distill complex information and provide clear instructions.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, mathematical, and scientific skills.
  • Proficiency in CAD and other software programs.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to collaborate or work alone.
  • Knowledge of project management recommended.
