Histopathologist Job Description Template

We are searching for a meticulous histopathologist to join our medical center. Your responsibilities include dissecting and analyzing tissue samples to identify diseases. You will also compile detailed clinical reports, recommend equipment upgrades or replacements when needed, and provide updated knowledge about best practices in the field.

To be successful as a histopathologist, you should be able to write lucid clinical reports and collaborate with various medical personnel. An outstanding candidate will be exceptionally detail-oriented and have the ability to focus for lengthy periods.

Histopathologist Responsibilities:

  • Selecting the most appropriate tissue samples for analysis.
  • Dissecting and examining resected tissue using biopsies, aspirated tissue, and, in some instances, making use of frozen tissue sections.
  • Analysing tissue using accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining.
  • Spending time in the mortuaries in order to perform autopsies.
  • Handling cell and tissue samples with meticulous care to prevent infection.
  • Instructing and guiding other members of the biomedical team about tissue analysis, identification, and the appropriate test to perform.
  • Compiling and submitting clinical reports to medical specialists and health care professionals and collaborating with them to prescribe patient care.
  • Conducting clinical audits to identify best laboratory practices in order to provide excellent patient care.
  • Handling tissue specimens in accordance with safety requirements and infection-control specifications.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of pathology sampling and communicating this to colleagues.

Histopathologist Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in medicine.
  • A minimum of 4 years of specialist training in histopathology.
  • Completion of the United States Medical Licensing exam.
  • Extensive knowledge of tissue sampling and analysis techniques.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional clinical supervision skills to lead the biomedical team.
  • Regular presentation of tissue and cell diagnostic reports.
  • The ability to write lucid clinical audit reports.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly competent presentation skills to educate medical personnel about laboratory findings.
  • A willingness to learn and embrace new forms of technology.
