Avionics Technician Job Description Template

We are looking for a knowledgeable, experienced avionics technician to join our team. The responsibilities of the avionics technician include running cables, mounting antennas, connecting instruments for navigation and engine monitoring, and installing radios, autopilots, and passenger entertainment systems.

To be a successful avionics technician, you should possess great attention to detail and a strong working knowledge of advanced electronics and systems diagnostics. Ultimately, a top-notch avionics technician should have great maths skills, manual dexterity, and experience with quality control analysis.

Avionics Technician Responsibilities:

  • Installing and testing complex avionics equipment and electrical systems on aircraft or spacecraft.
  • Ensuring that all avionics equipment works properly before take-off and that they do not interfere with any other electronic device.
  • Removing, repairing, and re-installing any problematic avionics equipment before an aircraft is cleared for take-off.
  • Performing intricate and highly reliable soldering on components for navigation, missile control, and communication.
  • Assembling and installing electrical components.
  • Providing accurate diagnoses of difficult avionics problems.
  • Organizing ground support and test equipment for flight tests.
  • Analyzing flight test data to diagnose malfunctions and study the operations of the electrical components.
  • Coordinating all work with of engineers, technicians, and aircraft maintenance staff.
  • Keeping detailed records of all repairs and work performed on the aircraft.

Avionics Technician Requirements:

  • A bachelor's or associate's degree in avionics or aviation technology.
  • Certifications in electrical engineering or aviation maintenance.
  • Federal Aviation Administration license or Federal Communications Commission license as restricted radiotelephone operators.
  • Previous work experience with aircraft electrical repair and with specific aircraft maintenance and repair manuals.
  • Experience with systems such as NAV/COM/PULSE, Autopilot, GPS, and RVSM.
  • Strong working knowledge of aviation safety practices and technology.
  • An understanding of other aircraft systems, such as hydraulics and flight control.
  • The ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Excellent analytical, attention-to-detail, troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Steady hands and excellent eyesight.
