The economic impact of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic is causing scores of Australians to lose their jobs. Many businesses are struggling to cope with challenges caused by the global crisis and are forced to reduce their labor force.

However, some Australian businesses, such as supermarkets, health services, telecommunications, and food delivery services, are experiencing an increase in demand and are actively hiring during this crisis. We have put together a list of companies across different industry sectors in Australia that are still hiring during the Coronavirus crisis.

Companies hiring during Coronavirus:


On March 27, 2020, Woolworths announced that they would hire up to 20,000 workers across their supermarkets, e-commerce, supply chain, and drinks businesses across the country over the next month.


Coles announced on March 24, 2020 that they are hiring more than 5,000 casual workers in addition to the 7,000 workers that have already been recruited during the COVID-19 pandemic.

NSW Government

The NSW government announced the launch of a 24 hour COVID-19 hotline and will hire 1,000 workers in full and part-time positions.

Services Australia

On 22 March, 2020, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that Services Australia will be hiring 5,000 workers to help deliver services in response to the COVID-19 crisis.


BHP announced they would hire 1,500 short-term workers for the company's various operations in Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, and Western Australia.


Telstra announced that they would hire more than 1,000 temporary workers across the country to work in call centers.


Centrelink is hiring an additional 5,000 workers to assist with the steep increase in demand due to wide-scale job losses.
